2001 - Won silver medals in the 200m (21.81) and the 400m (48.28) at the CARIFTA Games

2001 - Ran 21.73 in the 200m at IAAF World Youth Championship in Hungary, but failed to make the final.

2002 - Won both the 200m and 400m events at the annual Boys Championships.

2002 - Won the 200m (21.12) and 400m (47.33) at the CARIFTA Games - both championship records.

2002 - Won one gold and two silver medals at the World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

2003 - Won the 200m (20:25) and 400m (45.30) at the annual Boys Championships.

2003 - Won the 200m gold medal at the World Youth Championships.

2004 - Became the first junior athlete to run the 200m in under 20 seconds when he ran 19.93.

2004 - Suffered leg injury and eliminated in the first round of the 200m at Athens Olympic Games.

2004 - Refused scholarship offers to attend college in the United States. Registered at the University of Technology in St Andrew.

2005 - Started training under the guidance of coach Glen Mills.

2005 - Ran impressive 11.99 in the 200m at Crystal Palace in London.

2005 - Qualify for the 200m final at the 2005 World Championship in Helsinki but suffered an injury.

2006 - Ranked in the world's top five in 200m.

2006 - Won the bronze medal in the Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 19.88.

2006 - Won the 200m (20.10) bronze medal at the IAAF World Championship in Germany.

2006 - Won the 200m (19.96) silver medal at IAAF World Cup in Greece.

2007 - Broke Jamaica's 200m record (19.75) at the Jamaica National Championship.

2007 - Ran 10.03 to win the 100m at 23rd Vardinoyiannia Meet in Crete.

2007 - Won the silver medals at the 2007 Osaka World Championships.

2008 - Became the second fastest man in history when he ran 9.76 at the Jamaica Invitational.

2008 - Broke Asafa Powell's 100m world record in New York when he clocked 9.72.

2008 - Won the Olympic gold for the 100m in Beijing as he broke his world record with a 9.69 run.

2008 - Won the Olympic gold for the 200m in Beijing and set a new world record of 19.30.
