Best performances: Gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. First at the 2008 World Athletics final in Stuttgart. Third at the 2007 World Athletics final, also in Stuttgart. Silver at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston. Bronze at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile.The former St Jago High student and University of Texas graduate had a brilliant 2008 and crowned it all with gold in the 400 metres hurdles final at the Beijing Olympics in a Games record 52.64 seconds. Walker is yet to show her 2008 form in the current season but will still be one of the favourites when the 2009 IAAF World Championships begins in Berlin on August 14. Her season best is 54.58 seconds. June 23, 2007

  • National 400 metres hurdles champion Melaine Walker clocked a good 54.18 seconds to win the 400m hurdles at the Belem Grand Prix meet in Brazil May, 2008. Coached by Stephen Francis at MVP Track Club, She started the season very slowly and stepped up a notch with just a month to go before the National Championships in June to become the fastest Jamaican over the distance this year. Her time is also the second fastest in the world as only American Lashanda Demus with her 53.99 set earlier this month has gone faster.
  • JAAA NATIONAL SENIOR TRIALS - 06/27/2008 to 06/29/2008:  Melanie at age 25 finishes first in 54.58
