Melaine Walker returns home »
Olympic and World Champion 400-metre hurdles gold medallist Melaine Walker arrived in the country earlier this afternoon, two days after ending her season at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in China.
Walker was welcome home by government officials, including Ali McNab, an advisor to Sports Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and David Mais, Chairman of the state-run Sports Development Foundation.
Howard Ares, president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) was also on hand to welcome home Walker.
The 26-year-old Walker ended her season on a high on Sunday by winning the 400-metre hurdles at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in 54.68 seconds.
That performance came less than a month after she won the gold medal at the Berlin World Championships in the second-fastest time in history. Walker finished in 52.42 seconds, distancing herself from American Lashinda Demus, who took silver in 52.96.
